Rx Kids launched in the City of Saginaw, Bridgeport and Buena Vista townships earlier this year and, already, 283 families have been accepted into the program, 189 babies have been born, and $626,000 prescription dollars have been distributed to moms in these three municipalities.
SCHD – along with BWell Saginaw – is proud to be the local champion for Rx Kids, the nation’s first-ever prenatal and infant cash prescription program. It delivers one-time $1,500 “no-strings-attached” cash to pregnant women during mid-pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of the baby’s life.
In Saginaw County, we anticipate 1 in 2 births in 2026 and beyond will be Rx Kids babies. This is exciting to all of us in public health because the latest findings show Rx Kids leads to healthier birthweights, less preterm births and NICU stays, fewer evictions and less postpartum depression.
According to a report published in Bridge Michigan, the resources provided by Rx Kids also stabilize households and boost the local economy — where dollars are spent locally on baby supplies, food, rent, utilities, and transportation.

Expectant mothers must be at least 16 weeks pregnant at the time of enrollment or have an infant born on or after January 1, 2026.
